Waboku is solid wood incense with no bamboo core, so what reaches you is the wood itself. Twenty five pieces, each burning cleanly to ash. Hinoki, the Japanese cypress used in bathhouses and shrines.

Every Kousaido incense is blended and pressed in Kyoto, where Japanese incense making has been centred since the craft was formalised in the Muromachi period. These are kneaded sticks rather than dipped blanks — aromatic woods and botanicals are ground, bound and extruded together, so the fragrance runs through the whole stick and holds its character from first light to last ash.

Use & care: Light the tip, let the flame catch, then blow it out so the ember glows. Solid wood incense burns to a firm ash — stand it in a holder over a heatproof dish and let the ash fall. Keep the box closed in a cool, dry place, and never leave a burning piece unattended.
