A spring-loaded espresso tamper that presses with the same force every time. Push down until it clicks and the 58.4 mm stainless steel base has applied a calibrated 30 lb, about 13.6 kg, of pressure to the coffee. Sized to fit most 58 mm portafilters, it takes one variable out of dialling in and suits anyone who wants each shot to start from the same even puck.
PUCKS is Timemore's range of espresso tools. Where many calibrated tampers release their force all at once, the PUCKS mechanism ramps the pressure up gradually, which helps press an even, level puck. This one pairs the stainless steel base with a black aluminum handle and comes with a non-slip silicone mat to protect the counter and the portafilter.
Use & care: wipe the base clean with a damp cloth after each session so coffee oils do not build up, and dry it before putting it away. Wash it by hand rather than in the dishwasher, and do not leave it to soak, so water stays out of the spring mechanism. Stand it on its silicone mat between uses.
