Three Snow's 2025 pasta strainer, with a handle angle worked out from ergonomic research so tipping cooked pasta into a pan or onto a plate takes no strain on the wrist. It sits in any pot 20 cm (8 inches) across or wider. The open 16-mesh basket keeps water circulating hard while the pasta cooks and still drains fine noodles, and a tall rolled rim stops it deforming under heavy use. International patent pending.
Three Snow (Shinkoshi Works, founded 1963) has made wire and wire mesh tools for professional kitchens in Tsubame-Sanjo, Niigata, for more than sixty years. Everything is 18-8 stainless steel, built from heavier wire than ordinary housewares so it holds its shape under daily use. Forming wire mesh leaves short loose strands at fixed points; Three Snow removes every one by hand, one piece at a time, so nothing can break off into food.
Use & care: The handles get hot while the pot is on the heat, so use a cloth or mitt to lift it. All stainless steel, so the dishwasher is fine. Rinse soon after use so starch and batter don't dry into the mesh, and clean with a soft brush under warm running water. For stubborn build-up, Three Snow recommends a 20-minute soak: citric acid solution for starchy and noodle-water stains, baking soda solution for meat, fish and oil residue. Skip steel wool, which scratches the mesh. Dry before storing.
